Transport

Monash University Caulfield has a range of options for getting to and from the venue, so we are providing this comprehensive guide to help you get there with ease!

Here you will find all the information you need, including getting to the city from the airport, and getting to Monash Caulfield from the city using both public transport and driving.

To Melbourne CBD from Tullamarine Airport

Skybus

Departs Terminal 1 for Qantas and Jetstar Passengers or Terminal 3 for Tiger Airways passengers.
$16 dollars one way, $26 for two trips.
Arrives at Southern Cross Station.

Alternatively, a Taxi can be taken to the city.

Getting to Monash Caulfield

To Flinders Street Station from Melbourne International Backpackers (Recommmended Venue)

Trams: Walk to tram stop no. 6 on Elizabeth Street. Take either the Route 19, 57 or 59 tram towards the city. The tram will terminate at Flinders Street Station.

To Monash Caulfield by Public Transport

Getting to Caulfield campus is easy! To do so, simply catch any Frankston, Pakenham, Dandenong or Cranbourne train to Caulfield station (you can do this from Flinders Street, Southern Cross, Melbourne Central [all conveniently located in the CBD near most hostels] or Richmond stations). This will cost you about $3.50 each way, so invest in a daily Metcard to save money, which can be bought at the train station. Alternatively, catch the number 3 tram if you are far away from these stations. Use http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/ to find the most time efficient route for you!

Using a Metcard

While the Myki system may be in full effect at the time of the tournament, we recommend that you use a Metcard while on public transport.

Metcards can be purchased at any Metcard vending machine, which are prominently displayed at all train stations, and on all trams (for buses, tickets must be bought from the bus driver). Such machines accept notes, coins and EFTPOS, and there are ticket windows available for those without appropriate change (for bus drivers, correct change must be given).

For those without a Victorian Concession Card (this must be an official concession card issued by Metlink - NOT simply a university student card), an adult daily Zone 1 must be purchased for travel around the city on trains, trams and buses. After puchasing the ticket, simply validate it at the ticket barrier at any train station, or in any validation machine on buses and trams. A daily ticket is valid until the end of services on the day of validation, so there's no need to re-buy a ticket if its past midnight. However, you will need to buy a new ticket the following morning.

Safety Concerns

Given that there will be alcohol served at the social functions, and given debaters’ notorious ability to drink excessively, those intending to drive must take appropriate measures to ensure that they are able to drive safely.

Following a number of high profile fatal collisions Victoria has extremely strict and readily enforced drink-driving laws:

P-Platers: Any alcohol in your system (BAC above 0.00%) will result in a $292.05 fine and a 4 month licence suspension (10 demerit points)

Full Licence: BAC above 0.05% will result in a $350.46 fine and 6 month licence disqualification.

REMEMBER: It is YOUR responsibility to ensure that you are SAFE to drive. If you are in doubt, arrange for a designated driver BEFORE the night or catch public transport.
