Contributions to the MDR are welcome from university students and academics studying in all fields. Articles may take the form of interviews with prominent thinkers and academics or provide information and analysis of an issue or area of significance to debating. Further to this, articles may focus more specifically on debating strategy and adjudication issues, or may perhaps focus on debating policy and reform. In addition to articles, as the world's only debating journal the MDR seeks to publish basic results from prominent tournaments worldwide so any recent results are happily welcomed.
Article submissions must also conform to the following criteria:
- Submissions should be 2000 to 3000 words in length, with proper annotations in accordance with the Oxford style footnote referencing system (not author-date Harvard style.
- Submissions should be sent to the editorial committee via e-mail at
monashdebatingreview@gmail.com in .doc or .rtf format by February 28 2007.
- Submissions should include a separate document stating the author's name, university and debating society where applicable, contact email address, postal address, word count and the title of the submission.
- Do not place any identifying information in the body of your work. The Monash Debating Review is a refereed journal, and as such each submission will be evaluated by one or more referees, with the author's name remaining undisclosed. Short referees' reports will be sent to each author after the publication of MDR 6.
- Submissions may be jointly authored.
- Publication is open to all interested participants regardless of enrolment at university or membership of a recognised debating society, however submissions must be in some way relevant to debating.
- Please refer to the MDR Style and Referencing Guide for a more detailed approach in regards to MDR contributions.
Any queries on the submissions policy should be sent to monashdebatingreview@gmail.com. It should be noted that article authors will receive a copy of the MDR following publication, and that in submitting an essay, the author agrees to transfer copyright, including electronic copyright, to the Monash Debating Review. We reserve the right to make changes to the essay before publication, however these shall not affect the substance of the submission.
As stated above contributions are to be made by email. To contribute, email us at monashdebatingreview@gmail.com.
