Whilst MAD Members have participated in many public debates organised by other bodies, every year MAD itself organises a free debate that is open to the public on a topical and stimulating issue, in what has become known as the annual Vice-Chancellor's Public Debate. This event is generously sponsored by the office of the Vice-Chancellor, and as such we name the debate after the Vice-Chancellor. The speakers in the debate are usually prominent representatives of their field, and the debate is always a lively and entertaining affair. Past issues include human rights, international terrorism and stem cell research.
The 2007 Public Debate - on the topic "That Australia should abandon WorkChoices".
The 2008 Public Debate - on the topic "That we should fear the rise of China".
