The Monash Association of Debaters
(MAD) offers the highest quality debating training services to
students in the DAV, which can be tailored to meet your individual
needs.
MAD is one of the most successful debating
societies in the world.
All our trainers are experienced debaters and adjudicators, who have
debated at the highest level across Australia and internationally.
MAD has won the Australasian Debating Championships three times in the
past seven years, and were Grand Finalists in the 2008 World
Universities Debating Championships in Thailand. Our adjudicators have
also consistently been represented on the judging panels of the finals
of major tournaments.

MAD is heavily involved in the DAV Schools
Competition
MAD has a long history of co-operation and involvement with the DAV
Schools Competition. All of our trainers began their careers debating
in the DAV Schools Competition themselves, and now adjudicate and/or
coach school teams. Our trainers regularly adjudicate DAV finals, so
have a practical understanding of the skills required to succeed and
improve at school-level debating.

So what exactly do we offer?

your students reach their debating goals. We can tailor any service
to specifically meet the needs of your students. The list below is a
guide to successful programs we have coordinated.

Debating Skills Seminar -
Beginners
This seminar is tailored for years 7-9 students and years 10-12
students who have had little or no prior debating experience. The
seminar covers basic concepts essential for debating in the DAV
Schools Competition including: topic definition, speaker roles,
preparation, research and rebuttal.
Cost: 2 hour seminar $11/student, minimum 15 students.
Debating Skills Seminar - Advanced
The seminar is tailored for years 10-12 students with prior DAV
Schools Competition experience. The seminar covers skills relating to
Secret Topic debates, and our trainers reveal the method for winning
secret topic debates.
Cost: 2 hour seminar $11/student, minimum 15 students.
Debate Preparations
Whether they be secret or prepared, our trainers are available to help
teams prepare their topics in the DAV Schools Competition. Give your
teams that winning edge!
Cost: 1 hour $55/topic maximum 5 persons
Adjudication
We can supply any number of DAV accredited adjudicators to assist in
providing quality feedback and informed decisions in inter-house or
inter-school debating competitions.
Cost: $55 per adjudicator, per debate
Exhibition Debates
Our debaters will demonstrate a high quality debate on an issue that
is pertinent to your students' studies, or we can organise trainers to
debate with students to provide them with the ultimate debating
training! Price upon application.
Please Note: All prices are subject to change without notice. If we
are unable to find a trainer who is located near your school there may
be additional costs to cover transport.
Workshops
MAD also runs several full- and half-day workshops, that are usually
held at Monash University. The full-day workshop typically will begin
with basic introductions to debating in the morning, and move on to
more advanced issues, and the afternoon focuses on an exhibition
debate, and a practice debate for the students themselves. (For

2009) MAD offers its training services for only $30 (incl GST) per
student for a comprehensive full day seminar.
All of our services can be tailored to meet your individual needs.
We also provide package deals to schools, so that students can
experience the range of services that our debating society provides.
