UPCOMING SOCIAL EVENTS

Post-Worlds

With a second consecutive win at the World Universities Debating Championship under Monash's belt, it's perfect timing to kick off the social calendar with a Post-Worlds Party for the ages! Come along and congratulate not only Kiran and Amit for their spectacular win, but also the other teams and adjudicators who ruled the tournament. Drinks and nibbles generously provided by MAD, with a venue that will surely be to die for!

WHEN: Friday February 24th, 6pm
WHERE: TBA

Welcome Back BBQ

Take a well-deserved break on your first hard day at uni, and soak up some of that Clayton sunshine with a BBQ on the Menzies. Whether you're there to catch up with some old friends, or to learn some more about what MAD is about; feel free to grab a free sausage and a drink to celebrate the new year!

WHEN: Monday February 27th, 2pm
WHERE: Menzies Lawn

First Year BBQ

As self-explanatory as it sounds – getting to know the first year debaters in a casual BBQ setting is the focus here. Come down and enjoy the (potentially) lovely weather, with music, free food & drink, and team sports if you’re so inclined. A must attend event for any new members to MAD.

WHEN: Thursday March 1st, 8pm
WHERE:South Yarra

Commencement Dinner

Start off the debating social calendar in style (and well after the social calendar has actually begun) and join us at Sophia’s in Camberwell for the classiest meal we can find! Prices to be confirmed, but nothing that’ll break the bank of course.

WHEN: Friday March 16th, 8pm
WHERE: Sophia’s Camberwell
PRICE: Expected $20 for MSA members, $25 for non-MSA

Pre-Easters

Lucky enough to get allocated a place at ANU Easters? Then it’s time for you to meet the whole contingent for a rooftop party in the heart of Elwood. Learn the MAD song, grab some skanky punch and get to know your new teammates before the lengthy bus trip to our capital.

WHEN:Saturday March 31st, 8pm
WHERE: Elwood

Regressive

Arguably the biggest and most highly anticipated event of the year. Regressive is the annual comedy debate filled with dares, drinks and debauchery. Running from third speakers back to first, with full audience participation, and the high likelihood of some very dirty secrets to be revealed – there is absolutely no excuse for non-attendance.

WHEN: Saturday May 19th, 8pm
WHERE: TBA

Pre-Easters Party

For those people lucky enough to come to the 'Easters' debating tournament, we will be holding a Pre-Easters party before Easters (obviously) so everyone can mingle, get to know each other and bond with the Monash contingent. We'll supply drinks and free jelly shots as tradition dictates, and we'll also teach you the MAD song for when we inevitably win! A must do event for those coming to Easters this year!

WHEN Monday April 23, 7.00 pm

Regressive

MAD's biggest and best social event of the year!! Free food and drink all night and, more importantly, a comedy debate that runs backwards, starting with the adjudication, giving all speakers the chance to dare people into doing stuff during the night, with inevitably hilarious and possibly awkward consequences. Funnier and much cooler than it sounds, make sure you come along and you shan't be dissapointed!

WHEN May 6
WHERE Somewhere awesome (TBC)

Post-Australs Party

In a dramatic change in pace, we now come to perhaps the least reputable event of the calendar: The Post Australs celebrations. As part of MAD tradition, we will be drinking absinthe from the trophy Victor Finkel so graciously acquired for us from those clingy New Zealenders. Aside from the obscene amounts of drinking, the Post Australs Party is a great opportunity to kick back, relax and relive those amazing Australs memories.
